Author, Steve Mariotti, founder- Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) wins Author of the Year Award from American Human Rights Society.

Steve Mariotti, founder of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is widely recognized as the world’s leading advocate for entrepreneurship education and a prominent advocate for freedom, democracy and human rights. His 2015 book An Entrepreneur’s Manifesto makes a convincing case for the power of entrepreneurship to combat poverty, terrorism and totalitarianism, and his seven-year Huffington Post blog reported not only on issues relevant to entrepreneurs and profiles of entrepreneurs from around the world, but also on threats to freedom and democracy. His series of interviews with Khmer Rouge survivors-turned-entrepreneurs, and his documentary film currently in production, Triumph of the Entrepreneurial Spirit, chronicle how entrepreneurship helps human beings survive war, genocide, natural disaster and other severe threats.

More than one million young people from Chicago to China have graduated from NFTE programs, using their newfound knowledge of entrepreneurship to create pathways out of poverty and improve their lives and their communities. NFTE counts Sean Combs, Chelsea Clinton, Diana Davis Spencer and many more business, entertainment and community leaders among its staunchest supporters.

Steve Mariotti began his education career in 1982 as a special ed teacher in some of New York City's toughest schools, from Bedford-Stuyvesant to the Fort Apache section of the South Bronx. What he found there were students who had been relegated to life in poverty thanks to a broken education system. Yet, when he introduced the concept of becoming a business owner, rather than an employee of someone else’s business, his students became more engaged than ever. This led to a powerful insight that students could be taught to participate in the market economy. With that, he founded NFTE in 1987 and led it for three-plus decades as it brought the power of financial literacy to young people around the world.

Steve is the author of 34 books, workbooks, textbooks and manuals, with some of his best-known books being:

Entrepreneurship: Starting and Operating a Small Business

Entrepreneurship: Owning Your Future

Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management

Entrepreneurship: Starting and Operating a New Business

By bringing business into the classroom, Steve not only saw that his students became more engaged in what they were learning but it was something that interested them to build a better future for themselves. Nearly 30 years later, Mariotti is sharing some of what he learned in those long, early days in his new memoir Goodbye Homeboy: How My Students Drove Me Crazy and Inspired a Movement which comes out August 6, 2019 https://amzn.to/2Y6SVnm
